Episode 143: Julie Smith

Julie Smith is Senior Fellow and Director of the Strategy and Statecraft Program at the Center for a New American Security. She recently left her post as a top national security advisor to Vice President Joe Biden. She takes me inside some of the key events, decisions and frustrations from her time in that senior policy making role.

Julie is a NATO and European policy expert who spent much of her formative years working in Europe, and Germany in particular. And we have some interesting digressions about NATO, the Balkans conflict and the relevance of German foreign policy.
