TikTok Bans and The Future of US-China Relations | The Geopolitics of the English Language
New podcast eps drop this week
We are taking the week off. Spring Break! One thing I’ve learned from publishing two podcast episodes a week every week for the last ten years: You can take a break even if your podcast does not.
We’ve got some great podcast episodes lined up for you this week. Today, I speak with Kaiser Kuo, host of the excellent Sinica podcast. We discuss legislation recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives that would effectively ban TikTok in the United States. We discuss the propriety of that legislation before having a broader conversation about what this proposed TikTok ban says about the current trajectory of US-China relations. I always learn from Sinica and was really glad to have Kaiser Kuo back on Global Dispatches for an enriching conversation.
Our Thursday episode is my interview with Rosemary Salomone, author of the fascinating book The Rise of English: Global Politics and the Power of Language. We discuss the geopolitics of the English language—specifically how and why the dominance of English has impacted international relations, and whether or not English will remain the lingua franca for the foreseeable future.
These podcast episodes are freely available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen.
Also, fun fact: both Rosemary and Kaiser are paid subscribers to Global Dispatches. You should join them!
See you next week.
